I started noticing about a month ago that when we'd go to Genuardi's for lunch, I couldn't find my drink of choice, Diet Vanilla Coke, in the cold drinks display case for the food court section. I didn't think much of it; they usually didn't have a lot of them out, anyway, and I figured there must be other people other than me who liked it. How could there not be--the stuff is like liquid crack (or so I think).
The weeks went by but no matter what time I went to the food court, I couldn't find it. That's when I started looking for it on the regular soda section and noticed that while there was still a lot of regular vanilla coke around, I couldn't find any diet except in the six pack cans. I really don't like drinking soda out of a can because I always detect a tinny aftertaste.
Well, necessity is the mother of invention, so I decided to make my own version of diet vanilla coke. A very simple recipe, and one that, quite frankly, I am surprised I hadn't thought of before, given everyone's advice that I should have a small drink now and then to calm me down and get me to be less stressed. Take a two litre bottle of diet coke, and an equally large bottle of Vanilla Stoli and voila! Instant diet vanilla coke (okay, sort of--alchohol calories don't count when mixed with diet drinks in my world), and one with a lot more going for it than the original.
Except I think I may be liking this new home version a bit too much, because the soda and the stoli have been sitting by my bed the last few nights and I've noticed that both bottles are going down in volume at the same rate. Which, of course, begs the questions: where can I get a bigger bottle of stoli?
